Features include easy-to-use Interface, new Guide Mode
MELVILLE, N.Y. (JULY 30, 2009) – Today, Nikon Inc. announced the D3000 digital SLR camera, offering first-time D-SLR users and budding photographers an affordable option to experience the extraordinary picture quality of a Nikon D-SLR. The 10.2-megapixel D3000 has features that make it easier than ever to take great pictures, including the new Guide Mode, which lends a helping hand to new D-SLR users by suggesting, and in many instances making, appropriate camera settings for particular shooting situations, and an extensive Retouch Menu, which enables consumers to edit photos, even when away from their computer. The D3000, which offers an 11-point autofocus system, also leverages proven Nikon D-SLR technologies including exclusive EXPEED™ image processing, and an Active D-Lighting system, enabling entry-level D-SLR shooters to take stunning pictures even when conditions are challenging.
This easy-to-use SLR offers great image quality and HD movie capability at a knockout price

Note that like the D40 and D60, the D5000 doesn’t contain a focusing motor and so provides autofocusing only with AF Nikkor lenses that have one built in: the AF-S and AF-I series lenses. This is a concern only to potential users who have an arsenal of older AF-Nikkor lenses, as Nikon currently offers 29 AF-S lenses, with focal lengths from a 10-24mm zoom to a 600mm supertelephoto. This provides the D5000 user with 35mm-equivalent focal lengths of 15mm to 900mm—enough to cover just about any AF photo need.

Nikon's newest SLR offers many D3 features while reducing size and price
For the many photographers with their eyes on Nikon's full-frame D3, but who would prefer less bulk and expense, Nikon has introduced the D700. The new D-SLR shares many of the top-of-the-line D3's fine features, but in a smaller, lighter (yet still rugged) body and at a much lower price. The D700 even adds a few features not present in the D3, like a pop-up Speedlight flash unit and a sensor-dust reduction system.
